Tampa Bay Lines in CSX Era

The simplified map below shows modern CSX routes just beyond the Tampa Bay region. The 1967 merger of the ACL and SAL allowed the SCL (later CSX) to eliminate redundant routes. The CSX tracks that were formerly ACL are shown as red lines. The CSX tracks that were formerly SAL are shown as green lines. Shown as blue lines are former ACL routes that are now part of the Florida Northern and Florida Midland short lines operated by the Pinsly railroad company.

Note, for example, that the route near Dade City is made up of both green and red segments, signifying the choices made by the SCL about which ACL routes and which SAL routes to salvage after the post-merger elimination of redundant routes.
