SAL East Coast Extension from Auburndale

The simplified 1955 map shows the SAL (green lines) East Coast Extension to southeast Florida that was built around 1925. After reaching Auburndale from Coleman (as described here) the route reached to Winter Haven, West Lake Wales, Avon Park and Sebring, then on across the top of Lake Okeechobee to West Palm Beach. Soon after, the line was further extended to Miami.

Today, the former SAL line from Auburndale still essentially follows the same path shown here, but the segment above Auburndale now extends only a few miles to the north.
